THE OPUATIA DISPUTE.
NINE MAORIS CHARGED
After we went to press yesterday afternoon Mr Justice Connolly and a jury of twelve were engaged in bhe Supreme Courb in the hearing of the chargea of obstructing and assaulting the police, near Mercer, on March 9th last, preferred against nine nabives of Keroi Kaihau'a following, on the Lower Waikato, arising oub of the Opuatia survey dispute. The proceedings were considerably prolonged by the amount of police evidence tendered. Evidence as to the struggle bebween police and Maori on the river bank near Mercer was given by Consbables Foreman, Hobsoa, Lowry, Eastgate, Cassells, McLennan, McDonnell, McGovern, Pardy, and other members of bhe force. Ab six o'clock the case for the prosecution was concluded, and the Courb adjourned until ben o'clock this morning.
