EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE,

A MAN DROWNED.

Brisbane, this day. Alarming reports are coming in as to the disastrous eflecfcs of bhe floods in the Geraldton districb.

Tbe river rose forty four feet above its ordinary level, the lower .parts of tbe bown were submerged and the inhabitants fled to higher ground. A man named Thompson was drowned whilo engaged in rescue work. Large quantities of bananas, which were lying ready for shipment, were washed away. . At Touijsville the western end of the Breakwater was demolished by the action of the heavy seas, and the eastern was also considerab y damaged.
