SELLING DRINK WITHOUT A LICENSE.

Dunedin, this day. At Balclutha yestofday, Willam Guest and his wife were charged wibh selling drink Withoub a license. It appeared that a man named J. C. Anderson called ab Guest's store, and asked Mrs Guest to send a gallon of whisky to his house with the goods ordered by Mrs Anderson. Mrs Guest said bhey did nob keep ib, bub would geb ib, and a carber called at anobher store and delivered tbe whisky with the other goods, the bill being made nub in Guest's name. Anderson has nob yeb paid for the whisky, bub the ptice charged is .the same sb that paid by Guest for it. The case againsb Guest was withdrawn. The defence was that- Mrs Guest was merely an agent for Anderson, and there had been no sale by her to him ; and farther, that She merely acted as her husband's servant. In view of the importance of the case, Mr Hawkins, S.M., reserved bis decision.
