THE LICENSING ELECTIONS.
(BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
Wellington, this day. The poll in Qtaki was ineffective. The only temperance candidate was afa the bottom of the list.
It is understood the Wellington Committee only intend to reduce the houses by three or four.
The scrutiny of the suburban poll shows that, with the informal votes added, the poll is effective in favour of a reduction.
The scrutiny of the city poll is expected to last three days. Ib has already been found, however,'that Mr Smith, one of the temperance candidates elected, who waa eighth on the list, should be credited"with 18 more votes, and this reduces the chance of his being displaced.
The suburbs' Returning Officer declines to count the informal votes, and intends to declare the poll inoperative.'
Dunedin, Tuesday.
The Waihemo Temperance Committee was elected, the lowest successful candidate polling 330 votes more than the highest moderate. The complete local option returns are nob yeb available, bub the poll is likely to be void.
