THE POLO TOURNAMENT.

AN AUCKLAND DEFEAT.

Wanganui, this day. The annual tournament of the New Zoaland Polo Association for the Savile Cup is now proceeding. The first boat was between the Rangitikei 11. and Auckland,, The Rangitikei team consisted of Messrs W. A. Keillar,' E. Keillor, W. B. Saunderson and li. Gorton ; and tho Auckland team of Messrs A. Purchas, F. Colegrovo, VV. Bloomfield and E. O'Rorke. The play throughout was very even, the game being played with greab koenness. Tho first goal was obtained in the first boub by Rangitikei, and on the change of sides the play was moro swift. At the end of tho boub the score stood— Rangitikei one to nil. In the second boub, Auckland was on the aggressive, the Rangitikei team only saving a score against them by continually forcing down. This did nob last, however, O'Rorke and Purchase managing to get the ball, and driving it along the latberscoredagoalfor Auckland. The score Btood ab 1 goal eßch at the end of the second bout. On resuming play, Auckland forced the game into their opponents' territory, but Rangitikei 30on altered the position, but could not prevent Auckland scoring at bho other goal. Score : Auckland 2, Rangitikei 1. The game was resumed with great vigour, and jusb at about time Rangitikei scored a second goal. At the end of the third bout the score stood : Auckland 2 goals, Rangitikei 2 goals. The opening of tho fourth was all iv favour of the northerners, and in a very fow minutes' work their third goal was scored by Auckland. The gamo was very even after this, and at aboub halfbime Rangitikei, by some splendid play on the part of R. Gorton and E. Keillor, obtained their third goal. Score: 3 goals each, and thus bhe game stood to the end of the boub. The teams immediately started to ploy off, the resulb being in favour of Rangibikei, for whom E. Keillor managed tp get a good goal. Rangitikei. 4 ; Auckland, 3. The second heab was between the Christchurch beam, consisting of Messrs A. E. G. Rhodes, G. Buckley, R. Rhodes, and France, and the Manawabu beam, consisting of Messrs G. Lloyd, Spiers, F. W. Sewell, and A. Skerman. The game was much slower than the former, the Christchurch team apparently having ib all their own way. Thoy scored one goal in the first boub, three in the secoud, one in the third, and one in the fourth. At tbe call af time, Christchurch were therefore the winners by six goals to nil.
