Wellington, Wednesday. Speaking ab Shannon, the Premier disclaimed any personal friendship in the appointment of Mr Ronayne as ono of the Railway Commissioner^. Ho scarcely know him, and had no idea whab his politics. might be. He was appointed solely on hia merits as a railway expert. Mr Seddon remarked thab in view of the bad harvest in the South, if bhe Commissioners were to allow a discount of 25 per cenb on ordinajj&r grain rabea this season, in his opinion ib would be warranted, and tho Treasury would nob objecb. *If ho were a member of the Board he would nob hesitate for a moment, and he believed he would bo supported by Parliamenb. The meebing passed a vote of thanka and confidence in the Government.
Tho Bank of England destroys about 550,000 of its notes'every week to replace them with freshly -' printed ones. Ona evening in eaoh week is set apart for bhe making of this expensive bonfire.
