Cheistchdrch, this day. At the Supreme Court yesterday, William Gregory Ballanfcyne pleaded guilby to forgery and uttering, and sentence was deferred, pending the report of the probation officer. Alfred Bryth, alias Charles Stewart Seeger, for burglary, wbb sentenced to two years' imprisonment. James Norbhey for breaking and entering was sentenced to three months. John Henry Arthur Landsdale, charged with a similar offence, was found guilty of stealing, and sentenced to two years' imprisonment. George McKenzie and Albert Payne, charged with assault and robbery, were tound not guilby. At the Supreme Court to-day James Purvis, who was found guilty of false pretences, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. VV. J. Ballantyne, charged with forgery and uttering, was placed on probation for six months, and ordered to pay £5 towards the cost of the prosecution, Invercabgill, this day. At the Supreme Court), after a trial extending over tour days, John Plinton Weir, a married man between 40 and 50 years of age, was acquitted on a charge of attempted rape on a girl of 13 years. The jury were only a few minutes considering their verdict.
