LAWN TENNIS.
At the Bpsom Ground yesterday another item of the second round of the single championship1? was played, Stevenson defeating Hall, 6-0, 6—3, 6-0. The play was by no means as uneven as is indicated by the scores, vantage games being the order of the day. On the Parnell lawn two handicap matches were played during yesterday afternoon. Messrs Ward and Paterson beat Messrs Tempest and Denniston, 6 —5, 5 5, The other contest was between Messrs Gillies and Blair (owe f-15) and' Messrs Pollen and Maclean. The placing of Gillies in the first set was particularly good, and ib was mainly bhrough this that his side won the first eeb, 6—5. The next set also fell to Messrs Gillies and Blair, 6—3 being the score. The matches thab were seb down to be played this afternoon were between Miss Mowbray and Mies M. Frost ab the Eden and Epsom Lawn, and Mips Rookes and MjssE. Laishley at the Parnell Lawn, but cwiae to tho rain they had tc be postponed.
