THE FRENCH ARMAMENT.

, Paris, February 2. In* the Chamber of Deputies, Admiral Lsfevre, Minister for Marine, replying to M. Lockroy, said the French fleet, guns and projectiles were superior to those of Great Britain. If any faults existed they W6ro nob of a serious nature.
General Meruior, Minister for War, said tha number available for coast defence was a quarter of a million men.
It was announced that Cherbourg is to be strengthened, and that Corsica is regarded as safe.
The Premier declared it was the intention of the Governmont to expend a million and three-quarter poundn on coast defence. The Premier deiended the French navy from M. Lockroy's attacks, and declared that 200,000 men were available for coast defence. He undertook to reform abuses. A vote of confidence in the Government vraa passed.
