Waters wrote in reference to his wafer supply of last and rS* quarters. This hud been Ze He was informed that the meter is •11 right, and that he must pay the £11 odd for which he is billed. He thought this was an injustice, for his water supply for years past had not averaged more than | 45s per quarter. The pipoa had been overhauled, and there possibly could not be a leak He also complained of being compelled to use a water meter, while others in the same Hue of bu-iness were exempt, and requested that the Council would allow the average to be taken and charged for.— Referred To the Waterworks Committee. Resignation.-Mr C. S. Wright wrote tendering hia resignation as councillor representing tho Ponsonby ward, " as a proteat against the unwarrantable incroase in salaries of the officers of the Council for tho year 1894."—The resignation waa received without comment. A Claim.—Mr H. G. Wade wrote giving notice that he intended to quit and deliver up possession of the offices occupied by him »c the old Council offices, High-street, on the 30th June, 1894. He also enclosed an account for rent of rooms occupied by the Council during the time he hud been tenant, with books, documents, and papers, including set of plans for the Library not returned, .and also an accounb of £10 10i for his competition plans for Library additions td the new Art Gallery, for which he had made repeated applications without result.—The Engineer reported that 111 Wade's competitive plans bad never been in his possession. The rooms referred to by Mr Wade as being occupied by tho Council are attica.—Referred to the Library Committee-Greenwood-street.— Mr J, F. W. Cook wrote that it was unreasonable to ask him to find one-half of the earth for filling in in front of his property in Greenwood-atreet. The Council had made the street, but never
completed it.—Tne Engineer stated that when earth was available in the locality he wonld give instructions to have the road fidened to suit the applicant.—lt was detided to eeud a reply in accordance with
the Engineer's roport. The Late C. H. Spckueon.—The Rev. Thoa. Spurgeon wrote from Newington ILondoD), asking if a plaster cast of a bust jf hi« father would be acceptable to the citizens of Auckland for the Art Gallery.
He was willing to present one and defray sil of transit. —Referred to the Library Committee. -
Newmarket Water Supply.—The Town
Clerk of Newmarkeb wrote that he had paid £102 190 9ui, being 75 per cent, of the ,ast quarter's water account. He hoped jha Council would accept tbe amount petit) »s in fall, as the meter had been travelling ?eiy quick for a considerable time. The turncock stated the Newmarket meter lettered 25 per cent, over the amount ictually consumed. —Referred to the Waterworks Committee. Domain Road.—Tbe Town Clerk of Partell drer attention to the defective and dangerous state of the footpath leading lutothe Domain from the Farnell entrance. >-MrGoldie, Superintenaentof Works, reported that thu footpath was not within the Domain boundary.—lt was decided to veply in accordance with the report of the Superintendent of Works. West-street. — Mr John Edger wrote that the temporary retaining wall erected !n front of hia property, in West-street, had , become rotten and was giving way.—The Ward foreman stated that no rilling in was Hade or wall built at Mr Edger's property by the Council. The erection of a stone wail would cost £12.— Keierred to tho ward members to report.
Permits.—An application from Mr N. Wired Nathan for the extension of the Watidah attached to his house in PrincesStreet, was granted.—Mr H. H. Smith's reqneatto remove a shed in Victoria-street, »M referred to the Streets Committee to report.

Porter and Co. and Morrin and Co. for supplies were referred to the Engineer. Committees.—Mr Haume's name was added to the Legal Committee and Mr Stichbury'a to the Finance Committee. Messrs A. Boardman and Graves Aickin were placed on the Advisory Committee. The Mayor waa added to the Sinking Fund Commissioners.
Notices of Motion.—The Mayor moved, " That the consideration of affixing additional street lamps be referred to the Lighting Committee, to consult the ward members and report."—Carried. Cr. Swales moved, " That the Engineer prepare plans and specifications, and call for tenders for the kerbing and channelling authorised to be done in Brown-street." —Carried. Cr. Grey moved, "That the kerbing and channels on each side of Priuces-street, from Waterloo Quadrant to Eden Crescent on the one side, and from tho Northern Club to Eden Crescent on the other side, be laid with concrete."—Carried.
