ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

A MAN TAKES A BOTTLE OF CHLORODYKE. "TIRED OF LIFE." An attempt to commit suicide occurred at par 1 ton Gore Road, Newmarket, between 9 »nrl 10 o'clock last night, when John James Kelly swallowed a small bottle full of chlorodyne at his house. Dr. Mackellar was eenfc for immediately after the occurrence. Mrs Anne Kelly, the man's wife, also reported the matter to Constable Lamb, of the Newmarket station, and he Trent to the house at once. Kelly told Constable Lamb thab he had swallowed a ■mallbottleot chlorodyne "as he was tired of life." He had also written several letters, one to the Star Office, one to the "Herald" Office, and one to Mr Kelly,. M.H.R., his brother ah Wellington. Kelly said that he gob a man to buy the chlorodyne for him from Mr Edson, chemist, Queen-streeb, bub he refused to give the constable the name. Dr. Maciellar arrived ab Kelly's house at 10.50. Kelly also sdmifcted to the doctor thab he had taken the chlorodyue for the purpose of killing himself, as he was tired of his life. Dr. Mackellar ordered the man's removal to the Hospital, where he was conveyed in a cab by Constable Lamb, and Mr J. H. Morris, carter, in the employ of Mr Ehrenfried, and who lives in Carlton Goro Road. Mr Morris was present when Kelly admitted taking the chlorodyne. Constable Lamb took charge of the bottlo which had contained the chlorodyne. It had Mr Ed3on's label on ib, and marked •• Poison." When Kelly arrived ab the Hospital the stomach pump wa9 used, and we learn today thac he is apparently outi of danger, and progressing well. Mr Edson informs us that he sold a bottle of chlorodyne to an unknown person yesterday afternoon, in the usual course of business. The name of the buyer was not recorded, as it is nob usual when chlorodyne is sold. The label on the bottle bore the word " Poison " on it as required by the Sales of Poisons Acb.
