INTERCOLONIAL CRICKET.
NEW SOUTH WALES TEAM
ARRIVED.
OPENING WATCH TOMORROW.
The Now South Wales team of cricketers, whose visit to this colony has been eagerly looked forward to for eouie time past, arrived from Syduey this morning by the steamer Talune. The combination is a very strong one, and all the members, with ono exception, aie paying their first visit to this colony in the interest of New South Wales cricket. Tlio lepresentatives who landed here to-day are :—Messrs A. C. MeKonzie, L. Moore, J. Soarle, A. Noble, E. Noble, D. Miller, J. Gould, 0. Cowley, S. Austen, S. Walford, M. Collins and J. Davis (captain). Mr Coleman Davis, the well - known Sydney cricket enthusiast, accompanies the team aa manager. This is not the first occasion on which he has acted in this capacity, having piloted the New South W'alea team of 1890 through JSew Zealand. Included in that team was "Captain" Davis., The present team is a more lormidable one than that which visited our shoro four years ago, and contains in its ranka such notable players as Messrs A. C. McKenzie and L. Moore, who represented New South Wales against South Australia on the 6th, 9th and 10th of this month, when the former won by an innings and 158 runs. In this match, McKenzie distinguished himself by making one of the finesfa catches ever seen in Sydney. The lastteaai which visited New Zealand were unbeaten. They won fix matches and drew one. The team which is now here is a stronger one than the first one, and is expected to perform well. It is thought New Zealandera will find it much harder to beat them. A member of the team well known in Auckland cricket circles, is Mr Dave Miller, who played for United C.C. as late as laatJ season, besides representing Auckland. Miller has evidently greatly improved in his batting since thab time, as he has been putting up some large scores in Sydney. Regarding bis play a scribe of that city cays: —"Miller struck mo as being the best all-round cricketer in a recent match. Ha bats right-hand and bowls left-hand, is a fine big fellow, and very 'active. In the opening match he made 44 and 30, which was supplemented by 36 not out and 9 run out against the City. With more experienco on turf I think Miller would prove a strong all-round player. He cracked a number of balk to the off fence very hard, End although endowed by Nature with, srreab strength, he does not lift the ball. M iiler captured eight wickets at an average of 19 runs, which was second only to Maddison's bowling figures." The Auckland team which meets tha visitors on the Domain Cricket Ground tomorrow, is not our strongest, and general regret is expressed that Messrs I. Mills, H. W. Lawson and W. Gardner are noti assisting " our boys " in this contest. Tha local team is as follows :—Messrs J. Fowke, J. A. Kallender, R. J. Yates, Lloyd Quentery, J. R. Lundon, A. W. Jacobs, Roy. I. Richards, 11. Neil!, 0. Hay, W. H. Nicholson, J. Arneil (captain). The game will be continued on Saturday. This morning the visiting team indulged in some practice in the Domain, in tha presence ot a large number of spectators. The general impression i 8 that although Auckland will be beaten, the spectators can nafely rely on witnessing a good display of first-class crickefc. Moat of the players ara vigorous batemen, and score rapidly.
