Councillor Petherick fluttered bhe City Fathers last night by naming several wellknown citizens, whom he alleged were | owners of disorderly houses. A proposed j consideration of the bylaws, penalising owners or agents, was adjourned for a week. The Hon. John McKenzie entertained the Hon. Mclntyre, of Victoria, laat night. The Hons. 3ucltley and Reeves were among the guests. "The Premier wired regret that he waa unable to be present. Sir Robb. Stoub was unable to attend through indisposition. Mr Mclntyre expressed the opinion that in Australia there would poou bo keen competition with Now Zealand for the dead meab trade. He admits our climatic advantages, and tho magnificent water supply of this colony, but contends thab Victoria possesses more agricultural land of superior quality. Mr Mclntyre will probably go to London, as Agent-Genera!, in which event ho will devote special attention to expanding the Home market for Australian dead meat. He admits bhe extraordinary advantages for dairying here, but points to tho facb that Victoria has gob a long lead in development of this industry, and holds the London market. Sir Robert Stout is improving. Ho was able to leave his room yesterday, In Cabinet thh» morning, some special matter was discussed, but it was not of a policy nature. Sir Robert Stoub is confined to bis bod with influenza. The area ot tho Cheviot landn to be opened under perpetual lease ia ben thousand acres. Applications may bo put in till January.
