After Saturday the partisans of Loyalty mush admit bhab those who say Carnage is the better of the two colts over a distance of ground have all the beffc of bhe argumenb. To begin with, both mob Patron ab oven Weight?. Carnage tackled him fresh and beab him, whereas wibh n race out of him Mr Purches'colb beab Loyalty. Collateral form perhaps makes the difference between the chestnut and the bay seem greater than it really U. There is no doubt about Patron having stolen a march in the Canterbury Plate, bub Loyalty was near enough to the leader at the home turn to catch him if he had boon n Carnage. In the last two hundred yards Patron was able to go ju3t as fast, as Loyalby. With all the results of the meeting before them mosb people concluded on calm reflection that at present Loyalty ia not a champion over a distance. When the colb went up for sale on Monday Mr Archie Yallle pleaded his cause mosb eloquently, bub the big re en round the rin^, such as Mr Hordern, Mr Oollan and Mr Crozier, Were not to be convinced. His last running, they argued, put him behind Carnage, nnd whab ia the u<;o of giving 3.000gs for a colb to play Progress to Carnages Grand Flaneur? Beforo ho ran in bhe Canterbury plate, I believe Mr O'Brian could {lave had 4,000gs for Loyalby. His defeat to that race may have'been a fluke, but it **s brought aboub by a borpo which Car"age'liad beaten rnoab decisively, and the honoura are with the St. Albann colb. ■•At. the conclusion of an article on the Victoria' Racing Club's Spring Meebing, "Old 'Qij," of bhe Sydney "Referee," Writes:—"ln picking oub horses likely to "Wiutfuish themselves between now and n W Cno- ;»;ontion may be made of CarJjstej rounnmu, Loyaicy, The Sailor f^ce,- Patron, Light Artillery, Vakeel, Newman, Forward, Cobbitty, Pulvil, Divi--8l?"i Lannceabon, Donation, Dreamland ami Dryden. lb is n far cry* to the next Jiofcoria Racine Club's Spring Meeting, butforthe Derby nothing I have seen ab Pfescnt can boab Dreamland, Cobbitty, f^rite and Dryden.
