LONDON PRODUCE NOTES.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

Tbe recent) arrivals of Australasian autumn-made stored butters have been of very varying^ quality, and prices have token a wide range, as much as 112s having been realised for small parcels of choicest, while some New Zealand ex Ritnulaka was slaughtered off lasb week at 68s ! An average rate on the whole cargo would ;»ob, I think, shew better than 85s. In one or two cases I know of 112s was achieved, bub not by the agent to whom the butter was consigned. f Postscript.—Since writing the foregoing, values cf batter have, steadily declined. JFinesb Danish is now quoted at 122s per jewb and fine at 112s to 116s. Owing to Ahe coal strike, the northern markets aro .entirely demoralized. Last year "for the jsame week the Danish quotation for finest traa 1325,

Cheese.—Agents report thab they aro continually asked for New Zealand cheese. The market ia fairly brisk, and the later snakes of Canadian which are coming to fcand in fine order clear readily ab 51s per cwt for both white and coloured. Statea cheese rans about 2s per cwt lower. Wool.—Since the commencement of the Balea a fortnight" ago, competition baa become slightly mere active and prices have become firmer, particularly in the case of scoured Nw Zealand merinos, which are i h_

Id to ld dearer than at the opening of the sales. This is in a measure due to an increase of bidding on tho part of foreign buyers. Crossbreds have met a firm market, and are generally about dearer Jihan lasb sales. A considerable portion of tnese have come forward sliped, and, boing as a rule in good condition, have obtained very full prices. The sales to date of New Zealand total 58,000 bales. Arrivals for the fifth series now amount to 15,000 bales, including 3,000 from New Zealand.

Wheat.—New Zealand wheat baa attracted a good deal of attention, owing to tho scarcity of English, and a large business has been done on the spot at prices which show an advance of Is to 2s per quarter. Oats.—A quiet market. New Zealand sell slowly at 25a to 27s per 3841bs for ordinary quality (451b to 461b per bushel), but fine samples weighing 481bs and upwards fetch 28s to 30s.

Hemp.—Trade on spot continues flab. Fine Auckland is worth £20 to £21; fair Wellington, £18 15s ; good Lyttelton, £19 Ka ; common, £17 ; tow, £6 to £7 per ton.

Preserved Meats.—This markeb continues very depressed, owing in a great measure to the miners' strike. The market is glutted with colonial supplies. Tallow.—The market has continued in a satisfactory condition during the past fortnight. At the auction on September 29th the demand was active, and mutton advanced Is and beef 6d per cwt.

Frozen Meats.—Tbe trade during tho past fortnight haa shown bub little change. Alterations in values have boen in a downward direction.
