Mr De Latour, one of the candidates, addressed a large audience on Monday evening. He expressed himself in favour of the Government, but in disagreement with them on bhe liquor quesbion which, he said, should nob be made a parby question. Ho was strongly in favour of the direct veto, and urged Ministerialtontrol of the railways, and abolition of private dealing in native lands, which should be administered by the Governmenb aa in trusb for bhe nabives. He saw no utility in an Upper House, and was in favour of ending rabher than mending thab Chamber. Secondary educabion needed reform, and he strongly advocated reform in local governing bodies. A vote of confidence was carried by a large majority. ; ,
