The large and handsomely - appointed family residence known as "Rocklands," at Mount Eden, was offered for sale by auction this afternoon ab Cochrane's Marb. There was a large abbendance. Lots 1 and 4, which include bhe buildings, were firsb offered, and passed in at £1,000. Mr Dacre bhen submitted the property as a whole, but bhe highesb price offered was £2,000. The auctioneer intimated thab £3,000 would be accepbed, bub as this was nob offered bhe property was passed in. Tho manager of the Alburnia G.M. Company telegraphed to-day thab the value of the gold from tbe month's crushing was £3,404. A meeting of directors was being held when we wenb bo press, and ib is generally understood bhab anobher dividend of one shilling per share will be declared. A meebing in connection wibh !bhe Wesleyan Home Mission waß held in bho Mounb Alberb School-room lasb nighb. Mr J. E. Astley occupied bho chair. An inberesbing foature was a speech by Mr Samuel W. Kingi, a native Btudenb ab Three Rings, in Maori, and inberprebed by Mr Harold Williams. The Rev. W, Morley gave an I address descriptive of bhe work among the I Maoris of the Eai.t Coast, and the out--1 settlers of tho Wellington and Otago provinces. Greab interesb was shown by bhe audience.
