The body found in che harbour yesterday is thab of George A. Slafcor, a recent arrival from Australia. The collections taken up last Sunday at the Helping Hand Mission, Freeman's Bay* are to be donated to the Baillie Fund. A child two years of age, named Feather' stone, fell from a gallery at Kaiapoi (Can* terbury) on Thursday, and died yesterday. The Greenvale and Popotunoa Estates (Otago) of Jas. Logan, who died in England recently, will be put) in bo the market shortly. The Kennedy-Fauntleroy Dramatic Company arrived here lasb nighb from Mercury Bay. They will now go to the Waikabo. The fourbeen months' old daughter of Charles Kansden, farmer, Sbrath, Taieri, Otago, has been accidentally drowned in a pool of water. Dr. McArthur, of the Queen's College, wae represented ab Professor Pond's funeral by Mr Withers, of the University College. Tbe doctor was unable to be present. The forbniehtly meeting of the local branch of the Irish National Federation is unavoidably postponed from to-morrow evening until Thursday, November 16th. . The death is announced of Mr Thos. Easten, father of Mr George Easten, Government Audit Inspector for the Auckland Northern district. The deceased was for many years employed in the Sovemmenb printing office at Wellington. / At a meeting of the Benevolent Trustees at Wellington, yesterday, an old man who had been in the home attended and asued for an inquiry into the management of the institution. The Chairman eaid the request would be complied wibh, and the inquiry would be open bo bhe press. A collision occurred ab the corner of Queen and Wellealey Streets yesberday afternoon between a buggy driven by a daughter of Mr F. Jagger, apd'an express owned and driven by Mr A. Campbell, . One of the front wheels of the buggy was broken, and the young lady escaped uninjured. Two young men were capsized in the harbour off Ponsonby yesterday afternoon, while oub in a double Rob Roy canoe under sail. They were rescued by Capbain Lander, of the Devonport Ferry Company's steamer Alexandra, which was bound from Auckland bo the Chelsea Sugar Works at the time, and were landed in safety. The "Northern Advocate" says: "Mr Jackson and party are surveying the cele- "- brated Waititiri Block ab Poroti, near Whangarei. Lasb week tho natives cut up rusty and threatened to shoot if the surrey ! were not stopped, but an amicable arrangement has been come bo since. Ib is said this is the finesb block of volcanic land ia bhe North Island, without exception. This we heard from a gentleman who has explored the whole North Island, including. tbe central railway route. The block is aboub 20,000 acres in extent."
