Napier, this day. Recently a series of mysterious fires, nono of which did material damage, broke out in a cottage at Hastings, occupied by a family named Pilcher. The police decided to hold an inquiry, which lasted two days. The evidence showed a strong case for supicion, and the jury returned a verdict that the place had been wilfully fired, but by whom the evidence did not show. They also expressed their approval of the action of Sergoant Mitchell in holding an inquiry.
