The premises of Scotb Bros., Manor Place (Dunedin), were broken into between Saturday and Monday morning, and 301b of tobacco stolen. Tho burglara, who picked out the aide lock, could not geb into the office.
Tho Wanganui case against N. Rickelben, for alleged arson, concluded laßt evening. His Worship (Mr H. W. Brabant) committed the accused for trial, as although there was no dirocb evidence against her, he considered there was enough to go to a jury.
A fire broke oub in the new premises of Scott and Wilson, Venetian blind makers, St. Andrew-street, Dunedin. The premises were nearly gutted. The stock was insured for £350 in tho Victoria, and the building tor £300 in the National. Th» insurance fully covers the loss.

Four of the Salvationists serving sentence for breaches of the Milton by-lawa wera liberated yesterday, and were received with great demonstration. In tha evening the local corps paraded the streets, the procession being headed by four men dressed in imitation of the prison garb. Tho Army are now sending a lassie to Milton.
In the first series of competitions to select Wellington competitors for tho New South Wales Rifle Association's Meeting, Volunteer Arthur Ballinger, tho present! champion shot of Now Zealand, finished third, beiug four points behind his brother, who made 89 out of possible 100 at 500 and 600 yards, ten shots each range.
