Hamilton, this day. A tleasing event took place on Tuesday night at Hamilton, when Mr G. H. Carter, so long Secretary of tho South Auckland Racing Club, and of tho Claudelands syndicate, wna presented with a purse of sovereigns by a large number of his friends. The presentation was made at a meeting of tho members of the syndicate and a few others, and complotoly took Mr Carter by surprise, Mr Edgecnmbo, Chairman of the syndicate and tho Club, made a few remarks expressing the kindly feelings of all present to Mr Carter, and wishing him God speed in his new home. The gift) was a substantial one and well deserved. Mt'Carter leaves to open business on his own account at Cambridge shortly. Tho weather ia fine, with a promise of continuance.
