There were several spills during the race, for tho greater part of which Recruit led. The three placed horsoa then drew away, and leaving the rest of the field far in tho rear Cardigan won rather easily at the finish. Time, smin 29sec.

Fourteen horses startod. Bendigo made the pace, followed by Cannon and Antreus. At the back of the course Warpaint moved up, and entering the straight Cannon was in command. Confidence, who came up on the inside, displaced him at the distance, and was in turn dispossessed by Blue Peter, who shot out from the centre and made a great run, which landed him winner by a length and a-half.
