AN INTERESTING SHOOTING TEST.
SMOKELESS V. ORDINARY
AMMUNITION.
Mr McCallum, of the Auckland MartiniHenri Riflo Club, recently forwarded to tho Thames a parcel of Kynock's smokeless ammunition for the purpose of a test being made of the two kinds by the Naval Artillery, This came oft' at the local range a few days ago under tbo supervision of Lieut. Radford, when the following scores wore mado :— 500 Yards.
Totals 101 98 Ib will thus be seen thab the difference between the two totals is very slight, Bnd although thero is a majority of 3 points in favour of the ordinary, still when it is considered that it was the first time the smokeless powder was uaed by the men, the result must bo reckoned highly satisfactory to the now*invention. Five feet of windago was being allowed, and the smokelesß ammunition had to have one degree lower elevation than the ordinary. P.O. Henderson registered a fine score, making 49 out of a possible 50, and with the smokeless powder be placed five consecutive bullsoyes to his credit.
