A whiter in a recenb magazine saye tha he remembers some forty years ago makin the acquaintance of a very charming Iris gentleman and lady. One day she thoijjjli she observed thab Mb eyes were rest-fnj inquiringly on her brooch, which was c gold, inclosing a mass of fractured bon( She laughed and said— ' Are you admiring my brooch ? I*l tell you the Btory of it. One day, some 1 yoara ago, when I was a young girl, I wa staying in the houso of a friend who ale knew Mr N., who id now my husband. » were having a gamo—a romp—and runnm after each other through the house, whic was large, with long galleries and chamber communicating with one another. Mr J< was close behind me, trying to catch nW I darted through a door, and threw tb door back behind me. Mr N. had his heal down, and the handle struck his skull, anj he fell stunned. The skull was fractured and to save his life he was obliged to nay it trepanned. Now ho wears a plate o eilvor over the hole, and I wear the portioi cub out of his skull in this brooch.
