ACTION FOR LIBEL.
London, July 25.
J. Wilson is suing a London evening paper tcr £i,ooo for libel, in accusing him of recklessly expending the funds of the Seamen's Union, of which he is secretary.
In his evidence in the libel suit, Wilson admitted that local securities to the extent of ,£2,000 had been embezzled, and that the expenditure per annum on salaries and management amounted to nearly £20,000 before the members of the Union derived any benefit. He also admitted that it was illegal to apply to the expenses of management £8,000 of subscriptions received for special purposes.
