A PONSONBY SHOP ENTERED,

The butcher's shop of Mr.Barnaby, in Ponsonby Road, waa entered by a burglar on Monday night. In the morning the proprietor, who generally sleeps away from bhe premises, bub who on bhis occasion remained all nighb in bhe dwelling adjoining the shop, discovered that someone bad been in the shoo since he had closed ib on bhe previous evening, and bad absbracbed his cash-box, also some coppers, and a gold brooch, which was lying on a table in the dining-room behind tho shop. The brooch had been lefb there by his daughter on bho previous evening. Yesterday the cash-box was broughb back to Mr Barnaby by a man who had found ib lying in Richmond Road. Ib contained nothing bub soma papers, and tho thief or thieves had evidently discovered thab it contained no cash, and had therefore thrown it away with tho papers as of no use to them. A number of matches wore found on the floor in the morning, and ib was presumed that tho culprits had used iightod matches to help thorn in the search. Ibis sbated bhab anobher house in this parb of Ponsonby was entered by some nocturnal marauder the other evening. Iv bhis instance, a dog gave the alarm, and the " burglar," whoever he waa, managed to get away safely.
