THE AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS.
MATCH WITH MIDDLESEX. London, July 24. Ths match between the Australians and Middlesex eleven began at Lord's to-day. The county team comprised Lucas, Cornish, Westhorp, West. Phillips, Ford. Rawliu, J. Hearuo, O'Brien, Douglas and Scotb. W. Giffen, Jarvis, and Coningham stand out of the colonial team. Stoddarfc having injured hia leg was unable to "take part in the match. The Australians in the first innings Bcored 147 runs; Blackburn 42 and Trumble (nob out) 61, were bhe highest scorers. Lyons, Giffen, Bannerman and Gregory were all dismissed without scoring, and the first five wickets fell with only 26 runs on the sheeb. Haarno's bowling was almost unplayable, and he took three wickets for five runs. Middlesex were all disposed of lor 78 runs in the firsb innings. The Ausbralian cricketers have been invited to fill up their vacant dates by playing ab Dublin, Edinburgh, aa.d againsb several minor counties.
