THE P. AND O. COMPANY.
London, June 14.
At a meeting of the P. and O. Company, it was stated that owing to the cost of maintaining a high rate of speed, tho mail subvention was not sufficient to compensate the Company, but they were compelled to continue the service in order to provent French or German companies from acquiring the business. It wan not expected that the Australian trade would rcover for some years, and shippers must be prepared to pay higher freights.
