LOCAL GOVERNING BODIES.
- Annual Licensing Meetings have been held throughout the colony during the past wcok, and, as a rule, renewals but nob new licenses were granted. The Roslyn Licensing Committee last year refused all licenses. Three applications tor buildings ho refused were made on June 5. In one case, a petition in favour of granting the license was signed by 408 ratepayers and residents, while a petition against had 128 names less. After a lengthy sitting the whole of the applications were declined. Aba meeting of the Christchurch Harbour Board on May 31 it was resolved, on the recommendation of the Finance Committee, that the wharfage charges on agricultural produce should be reduced from 6d to 4d per ton; that the wharfage charges on all transshipments should be abolished ; that the wharfage charges on coal should be reduced from 6d to 4d per ton, and that the harbourmaster's shifting fees of Id per ton should be abolished.
