"RURAL NEW ZEALAND."
SIR GEORGE GREY'S TESTIMONY.
We print a letter from Sir George Grey to the author of "Rural New Zealand." Large numbers of this book were dispatched to their friends in England by people in New Zealand by last mail. The work of advertising the attractions and resources of each section is done in America by its private citizens, who form themselves into bureaux of information, and a section would no more be considered equipped for progress and business without such an institution than without a fire brigade. We should take care that New Zealand is as well known as Pears' Soap, Mother Siegel's Soothing Syrup or Arthur Nathan's reliable teaa. That is all there is to it—whoop her up ! Sir George Grey writes:— " Parnell, May 18th, 1893. John Houghton, Esq. Dear Sir, —I thank you for the copy of your work, ' Rural New Zealand,' which you have been good enough to forward me. 1 regard it as a most valuablo publication, which I believe will be productive of advantage to New Zealand, and to many persons whom it is likely to induce to settle in this country. 111 have forwarded copies of it to soveral influential friends in England who, I bavo no doubt, will assist tho circulation of your work. The public of New Zealand are under a debt of gratitude to you for a book which so agreeably and truthfully describes a home which has for us so many advantages and charm?. I cannot close this note without recording my opinion of the excellent manner in which this work has been brought out by the publisher, Mr Brett, who has done so much to promote the interests of New Zealand by his publications descriptive of this country ant] it? history.—Faithfully yours, (Sd), G. Grey." Copies of " llurnl New Zealand " are on sale at all booksellers, and at a stand in front of tho Post Ofiice. Price, one shilling. The postage is l^d.
