NEWMARKET BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council was hold last night when there wore present:—Messrs G. Kent (Mayor), Whyman, Angus, Herron, Page, Laxon. Charitable Aid.—A resolution .passed «t a meeting of ratepayers in the Mount Eden district re the amount paid out of the rates'Jor charitable aid, and asking for cooperation of the Council in having an alteration made in the oxisting law, was received and it was resolved to write informing tho Board that the Council would do all in its power to assist them, i Mkaslek.— Drs. Moir and Walker rei portod that there wero fivo cases of measles n tho borough at tho present time. Mkat Inspection.—The Town Clerk, Auckland, notified that the meeting of delegates to consider themeatinspection question will bo held on Wednesday, the 31st of May. Street Repairs. — Tho Foreman of, Works reported that tho several matters authorised by the Council had been carried out, and that necessary works had been completed. Crossing.—The tender of Mr Jas. MeCnrd of £4 17s 6d, the only one received, for a block crossing was acceptod. General Rate.—Tho Mayor in accordance with notice of motion moved, "That ft general rate of Is 2d in the £ bo levied on all rateable property in the borough," and this was agreed to.—Crs. Whyman and Laxon wero authorised to sign the rate book. Finance.—The following bank balances were reported: Gonoral account, demo, £150 12s lOd ; waterworks, credit,.£2lß 9s 7d; interest, credit, £72 17s 7d ; sinking fund, credit, £lb'O. Metal.—lt was rosolved to procure IOU yards of road inotal from Mr Pascoe. Depositing Rubbish. — Cr. Whyman moved, "That no permission be given for depositing rubbish near the Railway Bridge. He had noticed that a lot of bottles haa been thrown over there. The Town Clerk explained that ho had givon permission to Messrs Brown and Campbell to tip a load of bottles over there, provided they deposited them well out of sight. They baa not done this, however, and had also imposed on tho generosity of the Council by carting fivo loads to tho place. . Royalty.—Cr. Angus moved, "Thabtne heaps of metal in Morris ■ street be measured by the Foreman of Works, ana that the royalty on the broken stuff bo 6a a yard."—This was carried. The price o£ earth waa fired at Is per load and rubble at Gd per load.
