REPORTS LIKE SHOTS FROM ENORMOUS CANNON.
A WORKSHOP WRECKED BY
LIGHTNING,
CROL'S CONSIDERABLY DAMAGED.

Lvvekcargill, this day, A violent thunderstorm was experienced here between midnight and five this morning. Some of tho peals were accompanied by reports like that of enormous cannon. Lightning was very vivid, and a contractor's workshop in tho centra of tho town was wrecked by it. The iron roof had evidently been lifted bodily and dropped back in its place, as all the nails aro drawn about two inches. Every window was smas' ed, a portion of woodwork in front was shattered, a lead pipe was melted as if it had boen on fire, and sheets of iron were blackened by tho electric iluid deposited on the footpath. So far there are no reports of other damage by lightning, but crops will havo suffered considerably from wind and hail.
