AN ASYLUM INUNDATED.
LUNATICS PACKED LIKE SARDINES. FURTHER APPEAL FOR HELP. Brisbane, February 28. A deplorable state of affairs is reported from the VVoogooroo Lunatic Asylum. As the outcome of the flood the inmates had to be crowded in the upper parts of the building, and patients of all degrees oi insanity were packed together like sardines. London, February 27. Owing to the second flood and the extent of the losses, the Queensland Flood Committee are appealing to the public for help. A meeting of subscribers fco the fund in aid of sufierorß by the late floods in Queenland was held last night in the Council Chambers, Onehunga. Cr. W. R. C. Erson (Mayor of the Borough) in the chair. Mr G. J. Jackson, J.P., the Treasurer of tho OnehungaCommittee, reported the subscription up to date to be over £50. Ib was agreed to expend that sum in provisions and forward the same to the General Committee at Queensland, the Chairman pointing out tho dearness of iood in tho flooded district and the cheapness here, and that the sum of £50 would mean more in kind than in cash. The following are the sums collected : Mr D. Tv'eiison, i'o ss; Dr. Erson, £1 Is; public school, per Mr Stewart, £3 4s od ; W. Sutherland and employees, £9 ; Woollen Works, £3 8s 6d ; tit. Peter's Church (English), £3 2s Id; Wesleyan Church, £5 9s 4d ; Presbyterian Church, £7 11s ; Congregational Church, £1 Ss 9d and other smaller sums. SOUTHERN SUBSCRIPTIONS. The Selwyn County Council ha decided that subscriptions collected by its members, which now total £726, be con' verted into produce and goods for Queens" , land sufferers.
