DR. LAISHLEY AND THE BOARD OF EDUCATION.

(To the Editor.)

Sin, —Your report of tho Education Board proceedings of Tuesday, so far as I am concerned, is most misleading, and I, therefore, ask you to please insert this letter as a correction. For(l) I made "verbal application to );be Board," the only person I 6aw being fcheChairmanbefore the meeting; nor (2) wsi3 any application whatever made on behalf of the '' Teachers' Union," nor (3) did I, as your report alleged, say to the Board, or to -the Chairman, or to anyone, that? I "was snre that the Railway Departmel it would prrant a reduction of fares or fri js passe?." The express contrary was the case. For tho only meeting in which 1 a-;n interested is not one arranged by the "T eacbers' Union," but by the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute ,-and the Public School Teachers' Union, for the avowed purpose of promoting or c&tnent-ing tho fusion ct both Societies ; whilst insti ad of my saying that l"was sure," etc-,, the vfrii reason- I made the applioatiom in question was hecauss I had just received a telegram, which, prior to the meetir>.{j, I handed to tho Chairman expressly aiumting that the Railway Coir.inhsionsuould MOt tyrant froo railway passes. My application was incited by, indeed based upon, a suggestion which, according to tho telegram in question, came from the Edited' tion Department. —l am, etc., P.. Lahmxy.
