WHANGAREI JOTTINGS.
Tenders are being called by the Whangarei Town Board for erection of a sub-1 sbantial bridge in. Water-street. This will, when finished, be'a great convenience to the public, as the oniy other available bridge is rendered dangerous for wheeled traffic by being so close to the rallwu.v crowing, ab which a lob of shunting is d(WB. The Whangarei Town Board have lob all the offices in connection with its work by tetulcr. Mr J. McKinnon has been appointed Town Clerk, and Mr A. Thomas inspector of nuisances, poumUcecper and dps? t;v.< collector. There were several applications for each of rho officos. The weather during i.be last month has ! beet) very good for growing, ant] the croos everywhere look splendid, bub much difficulty haa been experienced thus far u>, j caving the hay, as there has been Euch an j ex.ce.»s of rain for this time of the year. I Work in connection with the RamoHiburangi railway is beinjr pushed on as well as the broken weather l/itely experienced will permit, and good progress is being made. The co-operaVive system appears, on the whole, to giv\j satisfaction i to all concerned. The Parua Bay Mangnnese Co. have started work again aftw nearly twelve months' interval. The quality of manganese obtained from this mine cannot be j beaten, and it is to be hoped that the' owners will bo able to koep the mine constantly at work in future.
