BOROUGH.
NEWTON.
The ordinary meeting of the Borough Council was held last night. Present :•—Mr S. C. Brown (Mayor), and Crs. Tibba, Webley, Holden, Donald, Porber, McMaster, Shackelford. Water, Consumption.—The Town Clerk reported that the consumption of water for the week ending December sfch was 105,000 gallons, and for the week ending December 12th was 102,000 gallons. Richmond Road.—Mr Thomas Seaman, on behalf of several residents, wrote to> the Council calling attention to the unsatisfactory condition of the stables between Surrey-street; and around the corner of Pousonby Road. He said that the stagnant water in several places is particularly offensive and seriously injurious to the health of the many passers-by.—lb wa3 reaolved to serve a notice on the tenant of the house complained of to cease committing bhe nuisance on Richmond Road, or otherwise a summons to issue. SLAUGHTER • HOffSE LICENSES. — The Council agreed to renew R. and W. Hellaby's license to slaughter ab their premises ab Richmond on the came terms as last year, viz., £50 for fees and £1 for license. Mr T. Faulder wrote to the Council asking them to re-consider the fees charged for slaughtering on hie property in the borough, and asked that they be reduced. He stated thab only four butchers were using the slaughter-house, and the return from the whole four butchers was aboub £2 5s per month. —Ib was resolved that Mr Faulder be informed that the license could be renewed by payment of £20 fees and £1 license fee. Next Meeting.—lb was resolved to hold the nexb ordinary meeting of the Council on the 21st December. Accounts.—Accounts amounting to £52 17s 2d were passed for payment.
