THE BROKEN HILL STRIKE,
ATTACK OF FREE LABOURERS,
SEVERAL ARRESTS MADE.
A NEWCASTLE AGREEMENT,
Stdxey, this day. A _ ijmbee of brutal aesanlts were committed on free labourers at Broken Hill on Saturday, and several arrests have been made.
A rumour wbich is in circulation, to the effect that the strike will shortly be declared "off "ia denied.
At a meeting of miners it was unanimously decided to fight on. A new general agreement between coal miners and owners at Newcastle has been drafted. It provides that all dieputes shall be submitted to a referee appointed by the chief Justice. Wages are to be regulated by the selling price of coal, and the eight hours' system is to be observed. Tbe miners' delegates consider the agreements daring the week.
