BICYCLE ROAD RACE.
A bicycle road race, promoted by th Auckland Bicycle Club, book place on Saburday afternoon. It brought oub a fair field of compebibors, and resulted in a win for Le Roy (7min), Bolton (4min), second, and Cobrough (smin 30sec), third. The course was from Onehunga to Parnell, and tbe riders had bo face a nasty nor'-easterly breeze. This, somewhab interfered with the speed of the machines, the fastssb time being 22min 28sec abtained by Selby. Mr W. Service acted as starter, and had the limit man away by half-past three o'clock. The latter maintained his lead till aboub , half the distance had been covered, when he was overhauled by Le Roy, who succeeded in holding tlw leading position till the finish. So closely was he pressed by the second man, however, ab the finish, thab fa was quite an exciting conclusion. Bolton made some very decided efforts to alter the position, bub they were unsuccessful, and Leroy paased the judge, Mr H. Nicholson, a winner by aboub four inches. Cobrough was not far behind, and the others put in an appearance shortly afterwards. The winner's time was 27min 20sec, a very fair performance. The scratch man Reynolds did not starb, owing to his pneumatic tyre giving way prior to the commencement of the race, Mr J. G, Lecky compiled the handicaps with very gratifying results, os only three minutes elapsed between the arrival of the firsb and lasb of the contestants.
