Hi- ovidonco dealb largely with the suitability of the lands for settlement along both routes, and was strongly .in favour"of the Stratford route. Mr Shera 'is attending tho meetings, watching the proceedings, and occasion- , ally puts questions through the chair. Mr -.IcKerrow, Chief Commissioner of Railways, ; to-day gave evidonca which boro a strong tinge ol Wellington influence. Mr Percy Smibh, Surveyor General, and Mr Hales, En-'inoar-in-Ciii-f, were nexb examined and eavo evidence of a much moro satisfactory naturo. their testimony to tho quantity and quality of land opened up by tho Stratford routo being most valuable, it is intended to-morrow to tako the evidence of i Mo-sr-Brucoand E. M. Smith,M.H.R, s,and 'Mr Holmes, District Engineer.
