A Smart Passage.
Q&ite unexpectedly the R.M.S. Mariposa with the English and Amorican mail, put in an appearance this afternoon, although not expected to arrive till Saturday, so that sho must have made pne of tho fastest, if not the fastest passage bn record. Tho English mail brought by the Mariposa boars London dates to August Bth. Tho Mariposa left 'Frisco on the BOth ult., one day after contract date, and had a remarkably fast run down, in consequonce of the outbreak of cholera, it was deemed advisable to have a thorough inspection of the vessel made by the Health Officer, and consequently the Mariposa dici not come straight up to the Wharf. Sho was met by Dr. Lewis the Health Officer on the way up the harbour, and stopped off tho end of QueenBtreet Wharf to await the result of the inspection and iumigation of the mails.
The iMariposa sailed from San Francisco August 19th, at 3.20 p.m. ; arrived at H onolulu August 26th, ab 6 a.m.; sailed fioin Honolulu August 26th, at 6 p.m.; arrived at Apia September 2nd at 4.36 p.m.; sailed from Apia September 2nd at 7.15 p.m., and completed the voyage in tbo quick timo of 18 days 22 hours 40 minutes.
