HAMILTON EAST SCHOOL.
COMPLAINT AGAINST AN INSPEC TOR.
Yesterday afternoon, at the meeting of the Board of Education, correspondence was read from the chairman of the Hamilton East School Committee, in reference to the conduct of the Inspector during the last standard examination, and asking that a full inquiry bo made into the matter. Mr P. E. Stevens, head-teacher of the Hamilton East School, wrote to the Committee aa follows :—lt is with regret that I forward the enclosed report on the late standard examination. Had everything occurred in my own room and among my own classes I might have been considered biassed, but from tho report you will ccc even the youngest children suffered. I was nob aware of all the facts till the Inspector had left. Mr Stevens complained that the examination commenced before the date fixed, and thab the Inspector spoke harshly to the children. A further complaint was made about the questions set by the Inspector in the various subjects. Mr R. Crowe, the Inspector, in reply to the complaint, stated that the school was examined most carefully, and that the syllabus was interpreted as leniently as he felt to be consistent with the performance of his duties. He regretted thab he did not receive from the head teacher that cordial assistance which, almost without exception, is cheerfully and promptly rendered by every teacher in the district of which he had charge. The whole matter was referred to the Hamilton East School Committee.
