NEWMARKET LICENSING COURT.
At noon to-day the usual quarterly meeting of the Newmarket Licensing Bench was held in the Public Hall, Newmarket, there being present: Messrs W. Edgerly (Chairman), Carpenter, W. Morgan, Holmes and Lumpkin, and Mr J. B. Stoney, Clerk. Sergeant Gamble represented the police. Nkwmarket Hotel.—An application for transfer of license of this hotel, from William Brown to John Black, was granted. Garlton Club Hotel.—An application was made for the transfer of the license of the Carlton Club Hotel from Alfred B. Griffiths to John Johnston. The police objected to Johnston taking over the hotel, and put in documents in support of their contentions. Mr Johnston had formerly been at Taieri, Otago. Rebutting evidence and credentials were pnt.inron behalf of the applicant, with whom the Bench expressed themselves satisfied as a fit and proper person to conSnct- the hotel. The license was granted. The police report on the Captain Cook Hotel (Edward* Darby) and Royal George Hotel IW. H. Warnock) wae favourable.
