MERCANTILE BANK OF VICTORIA.

STATEMENT BY THE EXMANAGER.

London, September 5. Mr Milledge, late manager of the Mercantile Bank of Victoria, in the course of an interview, asserted that he knew the bank was insolvent some time after his return to Melbourne. He resigned management because he was unable to press his friends to make a call, and he believes that a call of 25s per share will meet all wants. Mr Milledge declares that Sir M. Davies' influence on the Board of Directors was too great to enable the manager of the bank to control advances to what were known as the " Davies companies."
