THE SUBMERGED TENTH.

NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE SHIPPING COMPANIES:

A CONTINGENT FOR NEW ZEALAND.

London, May 16. General Booth is negotiating with the various, shipping, companies in regard to their terms for conveying a contingent of 50,000 of the submerged tenth to New Zealand. The General states that he intends to send his colonists on in batches of 5,000 each. Although General Booth is endeavouring to come to terms with the shipping companies, he has not yet submitted the details of his colonisation scheme, but he will probably first make a cautious experiment with 50 families, who will be sent to Cape Colony to form a village community.
