THE WELCOME.
TEMPESTUOUS VOYAGE
The locally-owned topsail'-schooner'Wel-come, .112 tons, Captain D. R. Cooper, arrived'-last evening from Brisbane, with a full cargo of. bones and bonedust, after a very rough and tempestuous passage of sixteen days, the woather during that time being , characterised by a succession of strong southerly winds, accompanied with very heavy sea. Captain Cooper reports leaving: Brisbane on the lsb in9t.; light winds and occasional calms, which lasted til! the sth instant, when a^ very heavy southerly gale was encountered. -The veßHel was hoye-to at the time under closereefed canvas to the windward of Elizabeth Reef, afcout 300 miles oft" the Queensland coast. Over the reef a fearful sea was running, and the captain jusb managed to clear ib, only a mile separating the two. He was very thankful to get out of that vicinity, and as the Welcome is a splendid sea-boat, he knew she could easily ride out the gale. From thence till the Three Kings were passed early on Sunday morning, a continual strong southerly wind with very heavy sea was experienced. She rounded North Cape on Sunday afternoon and had strong S. \V. wind till arrival. No damage whatever was done to the vessel, and she came into port quite trim and neat. She berthed at the Quay-street Jetty this morning to discharge her cargo of bonedust.
