YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION.
On March 29 the annual business meeting of tho Auckland Youug Men's Christian Association was held in Iho Association Rooms, Albert-street. Mr J. L. Wilson presided. Tho report sto ted bhat ib was now 37 years since tho Auckland Young Men's Christian Association was established. The reli showed 100 full members at 20s per annum ; 44 associate members at 20s ; 1(3 associate members at 10s ; 30 subserib.r. to library only at 10s ;14 subscribers to loading room at 10s. These gave a total of only 213 paying members and subscribers. There wore 2.5 names on bho roll but out of these 126 had ceased to subscribe. With a view of attracting a number of young men as associate members durin.r the year a scheme affiliating the various young men's classes and societies was initialed. A Literary Societies' Union had recently been started, and -a Union Parliament was to be started immediately. The usual evangelistic agencies bad been at work with varied success, and the attendance at the Sunday evening services at the City Hall had boon very satisfactory. Tho gymnasium was still under lease to Professor Carrollo, who held classes daily ; but it was surprising that, although a concession was mado to members of the Association, only a few availed themselves of it. The library consisted of 3,000 volumes. Some IGO new volumes had been purchased, and a large number of old ones rebound. The number of subscribers had decreased, bub the average numberof volumes taken out showed a decided increase. Tho lectures, concerts, and social gatherings hold during the year had been well attended.
Mr C. XV. Hemery, Ib Treasurer, presented his balance-sheet •■ the year. He stated there was an original mortgage to the Savings Bank of £5,0.0, but in addition there had been a mortgage of £1,900, which had been a terriblo incubus on them, which had been reduced to £500 nt tho end of 1890. The donations during the year had totalled £636 ISs (id. The balancesheet showed the to! 1 receipts for bho year to have boon £1,559 7s lOd, and the total expenditure £1,556 4s lid. Mr Brakenrig submitted a brief report concerning the City Hall Sunday evening services. They had cum. out in this connection with a credit balance of £- 7s 4d. Knighb, and the remaining VicePresidents of lasb year iv. ifch the exception of the names of John .\ewn_an, J. H. Simmonds and 11. J. Lewis) ; Hon. Secretary, Mr Thomas Buddie; Hon. Treasurer, Mr Hemery; auditors, M.essr. XV. F. Lawry and F. Nubter. Tho outgoing members of the Executive Committee were re-elected, with the exception of Dr. Knight and Mr Knight, who withdrew their name.- Messrs Twentyman, Hough, and Poarciua'a names were added to tho Committee.
