ANOTHER DROWNING FATALITY.
DEAD BODY FOUXD.
Tins morning, about 7.H0 o'clock, n gruesome discovery was made by a. lumper named Randolph Tobin, as lie was coming from the Railway Wharf to the Queenstreet Wharf to commence work, lie was just about midway between the Quaystreet Jetty No. 2 and the Devonport Ferry Company's tee, when ho discovered the body of a wan lying among the rocks at the foot of the breakwater. He at once communicated with Constable Fry, who waR on wharf duty ab the time, and lie, with the assistance of a waterman, conveyed the body to the morgue. The body is that of a respoctablo well-dressed man of about 30 years of age. of medium build ; hie height i? 5 feet 6 inches. He has fair or sandy complexion, and is extremely good-looking. The body is fully clothed. It has on a suit of dark serge clothes, a white shirt, and he was wearing a pair of fhoes. In the waistcoat, pocket was found an open-face gold lever watch, No. 20212, with a motal Albert and seal, on which are engraved the worde " Forget me not," attached, made by J. Burfoot, of Brighton, and a bunch of keys, a purse, a knife and pipe, 2 Avondale 'bus tickets, and a kerchief, were found in the other pockets. _ There ia a jagged cut on the right side of the head, shaped like a half circle and about 7 inches in length, leaving the skull quite bare. There is also a jagged wound on the ear, but it it is not very deep. The skull has no otherinjurieson it, nor are there any other mirks of violence on the body, which appears to have been well nourished. The police are satisfied that the wounds were inflicted by the deceased falling over the breakwater in Quay-street, a distance of 9ft,on to the stones which are at the foot of the embankment. The supposition is that the deceased was walking along the embankment, and falling over at low tide had been rendered unconscious by the injuries received, and while in this state had been caught and drowned by the incoming tide. A large number of persons viewed the remains at the morgue to-day with a view to identification, but up to the present time no has been able to recognise the deceased. It is probable that an inquest will be held to-morrow.
