Samson's Last Lifting Feat.
The latest lifting feat of Carl Augu.it Samson, the 'one and only original strong man,' seems likely to afford an opportunity of trying his strength upon Her Majesty's handcuffs. Samson, after tho manner of his groat namesake, owes his troubles to a woman, a fin de Steele. Dolilah, and married to boot. This young frisky dame, whoso name is Mrs Bernstein, taw Samson perI form at tho Aquarium and loved him. Tho | combination ol leviathan arms and lily lega I ' mashed ' her too susceptible heart, and when tho strong man in return succumbed Ito her ample charms, and even offered to borrow a trifle of £2.""-0, sho ' parted' as readily as one of his own chains. A few days later, Mrs B. presented her lover with £227 17s lOd, and in November handed over a further cheque for £300. Mr Bern stein jab this crisis left his wife, ami initiated I crivi. con. proceedings. Later, Mrs Bernstein pawned a quantity ot jewellery, I valued at £500, for a temporary accommo- | dation of £50. Samson, sho declares, ob- ' iained the tickets,' and said ho would redeem the jowellory. On Monday week ho did so, and brought tho things (bracelets, stars, and whatnot) to hor house. Tha strong man laid thorn on tha bablo and began to talk. In about 10 minutes ho roso to go, and sho went with him to tho door to lob him oub. On her return tho jewellery had disappeared. Mrs Bernsteen al logos Samson performed a dexterous ' lifting' feat as ho passed bho tables. On the Wednesday tho strong man was to return with the money he owed the lady, need I say the wretch never did so. Samson, in fact, was by them en route to New York with a fresh Delilah. On discovering this Mrs B. sent for the police.
