Tin-; Xewton Schools Committee he!d their monthly meeting on Monday evening last, a week earlier than usual, on account of the regular night of mooting, I he third Monday in the month, falling on Easter Monday. There was a full attendance of members present : Mr J. M. White (chairman), Mr G. Knight (treasurer), Mows W. J. Macdermott. T. McMaster, H. Thompson, J. D. (tow and W. Service.

It. was decided to close the schools at 2 p.m. on Thursday next;, Sir George Grey's birthday, in order that tho children may be ablo to take part in the demonstration as arranged by the Committee. The Board of Education wrote informing the Committee that it had been decided to build a new school in the Eden Terrace district., and that the residents of Eden Terrace had recommended that the school be built on that portion of the Grammar Schnoi reserve between the railway and tho Mount Eden district on the one side and from New North Road crossing the railway lino from Kclcn Terrace to Rocky Nook.. . The Committee were asked for their report and recommendation as to tho proposed site.—As several of the member;? of th(! Committee had nob inspected the proposed site, it was decided to defer the quurtioh to the next meeting. Tho Hoard's circular, together with the j ; e\v Act, the School Committees Election Act.
