Instantaneous Death.
A MAN KILLED AT COX'S CREEK.
About noon to-day, a most distressing fatal accident occured at Hellaby's slaughter-house, near Cox's Creek, in the Newton Borough, which resulted in the death ot a man named' Gregory Nicholls (or Nicholas), a carpenter by occupation. From whab we have been able to glean about) the unfortunate affair, it appears thab Messrs Hellaby Bros, are erecting a large shed on the grounds of their slaughterhouse establishment for the purpose of storing bonedusfe and manures. The man was engaged with other carpenters building the phed, and in the course of their work had occasion to lift a portioa of one of the sheds by the aid of a derrick, when it gave way and came down, striking the man on the back of the head. Nicholle was immediately picked up, and carried en a stretcher to the house of Mr Pyke, manager for Meesra Hellaby. Medical assistance was sentforand. Dr. Ba'yntun was found in the Ponsonby district. When he arrived life was found to be extinct - . The man's skul! was fractured, and blood was oozing from his ears. Nicbolls was a widower, but has a family. Constables Foroman and Walker went out to the scene of the sad occurrence soon after it happened.
Professor Paronell will hold his swimming gala to close this season in the Albert-street Baths this evening. Uood entries have been received for the different events and good eporb is anticipated.
His Honor Judge Conolly left for Nevr Plymouth today to attend the Criminal Sessions wbich commence there on Monday next.
